The Tanning Process

Tanning is the process which preserves and stabilizes the skin.  Without proper tanning the skin will be subject to a number of issues, which in time, will cause your mount to deteriorate.  Some of these items include constant skin expansion and contraction due to humidity, skin shrinkage (which causes cracks and opening of seams), unpleasant odors, grease bleed, hair loss and insect infestation.  Even an animal mounted by the best taxidermist in the world will eventually become a garage sale item if it is not properly tanned.

Tanning is not only labor intensive and expensive, it also requires specialized knowledge and equipment.  Unfortunately this is an area where many taxidermists choose to save some time as well as a few dollars.  We pride ourselves on using only properly tanned skins.  This allows us to produce for you, a mount that will truly last a lifetime.
